Traditional tastes, bright patterns and textured, exquisite material. The #IAMAFRICA
themed show breaks borders and unites African cultures through fashion.

Showcasing the Summer/Spring 2020 designs by more than 25 established upcoming
designers from across the African continent, African Fashion International (AFI) has been a
significant platform for African designers since its first runway shows 12 years ago.
Hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre, African Fashion International is bringing us loads of
different surprises with a new spin on the Joburg Fashion Week this year. From 10 – 12
October, guests will be invited to celebrate African cuisine, music and culture, with the
commencement of the African Fashion Unites show on the first night.
A showcase of David Tlale’s latest collection titled “JOYCE” which is a tribute to his late mother is expected to be revealed, as well as, The Pan African fashion showcase featuring Nigeria’s Mai Atafo and reveals by local designers Orapeleng Modutle Style Avenue, PALSE by Paledi, and Segabo are a few names on the line-up. The Motsepe Fundation values diversity and celebrates the importance and preservation of African cultures. Although it usually focuses on bursaries in tertiary education and Women’s empowerment, the AFI Fashion Week is a part of the supported initiatives by the Foundation and continuously works to recreate the narratives of the Black African designer and explore the relationships that African culture has with fashion. “AFI believes in the promise of Africa. With the recently concluded continent wide AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area), the continent has a large enough market to increase intra African trade” Says Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe.
The Fashion Week experience will be topped with a menu designed by Chef Coco of Epicure
Restaurant and closed off with performing artists Femi Kuti and Cassper Nyovest, get ready
to be inspired by the journey!
